Easy Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Recipe
These Bacon Wrapped Asparagus looks like something you’d get as a side at a good restaurant but they’re
incredibly simple to prepare at home.
All you’ll need is 4 items – asparagus, bacon, garlic spice, and brown sugar.
Season the bacon, wrap the asparagus, and drop it in the air fryer. That’s basically all it takes!
This dish was inspired by my other air fryer asparagus recipe, which I adore and prepare regularly.
I simply wanted to add a little bit more and bacon really took it up a level – the mix of the crunchy yet soft
asparagus and crispy bacon is amazing.
Ingredients Needed
This bacon asparagus dish is created with only 4 basic ingredients.
Asparagus
– I like thicker asparagus spears since they are less prone to overcook as the bacon becomes crispy.
You definitely need to use fresh asparagus spears, pickled or frozen spears will not work in this recipe.
Brown sugar
— I used dark brown sugar but light brown sugar works good too.
Garlic and herb seasoning
— I use Dash brand garlic and herb seasoning. You may use any brand but be careful to pick an unsalted seasoning since the bacon is enough salty and more salt is unneeded.
Bacon
– I used standard cut, hickory smoked bacon. Avoid thick sliced bacon as it may not crisp up before the asparagus
cooked. If you want to use a maple bacon I suggest removing the brown sugar in this recipe.
Tips for Trimming Asparagus
How do I know where to clip the asparagus? is a popular question and the solution is quite straightforward.
Asparagus spears generally have a thicker, woody bottom while the remainder is more soft and palatable.
The woody section of the asparagus has a somewhat deeper green hue and a more fibrous feel.
The edible section is thinner, has a lighter green hue, and is more soft and juicy.
My favourite approach to trim the asparagus is to grab each spear at both ends and gently bend it until it breaks.
The rough, woody component will break off and the soft, edible section may be utilised in the dish.
Alternatively, you may use a knife and cutting board to chop off the rough end.
Or, if you simply want things to seem consistent, use a knife to create a clean cut after snapping off the end.
How to Cook Bacon Wrapped Asparagus In The Air Fryer
This quick asparagus dish involves only a few minutes of prep and less than 10 minutes in the air fryer.
(Don’t miss the complete printable recipe card and video below.)
Prepare the asparagus. Wash and dry the asparagus, then remove the tough ends as described above.
Season the bacon.
Combine the brown sugar and garlic spice in a bowl. Lay the bacon flat on a piece of parchment paper, then sprinkle the mixture all over it.
Wrap the asparagus.
Wrap the spicy bacon around the asparagus — two stalks together each piece of bacon. Sprinkle extra brown sugar seasoning on top.
Cook.
Cook a few bunches of bacon wrapped asparagus at a time in a single layer in the air fryer at 400F for 6 to 8
minutes, until the bacon is crispy. Flip midway through.
Enjoy. Place on a plate with a paper towel to remove excess oil while you cook the remaining stalks. Enjoy hot.
How Do I Know When The Asparagus Is Fully Cooked?
The asparagus is done when it is tender but still crisp and not mushy.
You may check by gently piercing the thickest section of the asparagus stalk with a fork or knife. If it glides in easily, the asparagus is done.
You may also check for the color to transition from brilliant green to a more muted green, suggesting that it has cooked through. Because the asparagus is wrapped in bacon it might be more difficult to discern visually therefore I suggest using a fork to verify.
What to Serve with Bacon Wrapped Asparagus
One reason I enjoy this bacon wrapped asparagus is because it gives an elevated touch to just much any dish.
It certainly gives off “fancy restaurant vibes”, even though it’s so simple to prepare. A couple of my favorite things to serve with this bacon asparagus include:
Garlic Butter Steak & Potatoes
Chicken Dijon Crab Stuffed Salmon Chicken Piccata Scallops with Pesto Sauce
Proper Storage
Enjoy fresh. These are best savoured fresh. The texture of both the asparagus and the bacon will alter once cold.
Storing leftovers. While it is best enjoyed fresh you may preserve your Air Fryer Bacon Wrapped Asparagus in an
airtight jar in the refrigerated for up to 3 days.
Freeze.
You can also store any leftovers in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag for up to 2-3 months. Thaw in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
Reheat.
Reheat in the air fryer or oven before serving. While you may microwave the leftovers to heat them, it is not suggested since the outcome will likely be limp and mushy.
