Cooking air fried hot dogs have become a weekly occurrence in our house. They taste like they were grilled and honestly make the best beef hot dogs.
Whether you enjoy your air fry hot dogs in a bun or with no bun, you’re going to love how perfectly cooked they come out!
This hot dog recipe will work in any air fryer using the air fry or air crisp function, including the Ninja Foodi. It’s the easiest way to make good hot dogs!

How to Cook Hot Dogs in The Air Fryer
STEP ONE: Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees.
STEP TWO: Place each fresh hot dog in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
You can cook as many hot dogs as fit in one layer with some room in between each hot dog.
STEP THREE: Air fry the hot dogs for 4 to 5 minutes, flipping them halfway through cooking. Jumbo hot dogs can take up to 8 minutes.
To get a toasted bun, place the hot dog in a hot dog bun and cook for 1 to 2 minutes.
- Cook the hot dogs in a preheated air fryer for even cooking
- Cut slits in a diagonal line on the air fry hot dogs to look like they came off the grill — though this is not needed for even cooking. It’s just for aesthetics.
- Use a silicone air fryer liner for an easy cleanup
- Do not use parchment paper or foil unless cooking an air fryer full of hot dogs. They are not big or heavy enough to hold them down.
How Long to Cook Hot Dogs in the Air Fryer
Skinny hot dogs, like Ball Park or Nathan’s beef franks, will cook in 4 minutes.
Thicker hot dogs, like our local Zwiegles, or jumbo hot dogs will take about 6 to 8 minutes.

How to Cook a Frozen Hot Dog in the Air Fryer
- Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees.
- Place the frozen hot dogs in the air fryer basket and cook for 7 to 8 minutes.
- Remove the hot dogs from the air fryer and enjoy!
