State Representative Jasmine Crockett Announces Candidate for Congress – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

DALLAS, Texas (CBSDFW.COM) – It’s official: state representative Jasmine Crockett is running for Congress and has the support of retiring representative Eddie Bernice Johnson.

Earlier this month, Johnson announced he would be leaving Congress at the end of the current term.

Crockett, who currently represents the Texas House District 100 state, is applying for a 30-year Johnson seat, the 30th seat in the Congressional District.

In recently drawn maps of Texas, the district covers southern Dallas County and a small portion of Tarrant County. The seats of Johnson and Crockett overlap to a large extent.

In a statement in support of Crockett, Johnson said the district needs a representative with “high energy, a passion to fight for us, intelligent intelligence, leadership and constant vigor.” He ‘firmly [believes] that Texas State Representative Jasmine Crockett is exactly the person we need in Congress at this critical time.

Johnson cited Crockett’s experience as a civil rights lawyer and his knowledge of the area and its components as important reasons for his acceptance.

Johnson also praised Crockett’s “ability and vision,” including his focus on a fair economic recovery for all, drawing fair circuit maps in Texas, expanding health care, and reforming criminal justice.

Crockett said he was ready to be a “strong voice” for District 30 and that his “record has always been about people.”

Elections for Johnson’s seat will be held in 2022. So far, no other candidate has announced that he is running.
