French toast has always been one of my favorite breakfast foods. I’ve long wondered the best way to make them crispy as I’ve ended up with mushy results in the past. My solution?
Air fryers, of course! You can even use sandwich bread and gets nice and crispy french toast! Plus, they’re this homemade version is healthy compared to the sugar coated frozen kinds (which I will tell you how to cook too!).
My air fried french toast sticks recipe makes for a busy morning breakfast idea. You can feel free to use whatever type of bread you like — white, wheat, brioche, whole grain, or even a sweet bread for a delicious morning treat. You’ll prepare them just like you would traditional French toast.
The only difference is that you don’t have to worry about using your stovetop or griddle!

How to Make Air Fryer French Toast Sticks
A full printable version of this recipe with ingredient measurements is available at the bottom of this post.
STEP ONE: Preheat your air fryer to 370 degrees F. While it heats, slice each piece of bread into thirds and set it to the side. Next, create your French toast coating.
STEP TWO: Place the eggs, milk, flour, sugar, vanilla, ground cinnamon, and salt into a wide and shallow dish. Use a whisk to combine. Dip each piece of bread into the dish.
Make sure each piece is fully coated to get flavor and crispiness all throughout the cinnamon toast.
STEP THREE: Lay a piece of round parchment paper in your air fryer and place each French toast stick inside. I recommend parchment paper over non stick cooking spray in this recipe as the bread was still sticking to the basket after using it.
STEP FOUR: Air fry for 10 minutes, being sure to flip halfway through. Remove your air fryer French toast sticks and enjoy right away!
I love dusting mine with powdered sugar and dipping them in maple syrup!
What is the Best Bread to Use For French Toast Sticks?
While I love this recipe with sliced sandwich bread, you can get fancy by using even better bread.
Here are a few of my favorite breads to use for cinnamon toast:
Tips for Making Crispy French Toast Sticks
- Use a parchment round to line the bottom of the air fryer basket. This ensures the french toast sticks do not stick to the basket
- Cook the bread until it is crispy or it will taste more like actual french toast
- Whisk the eggs until they’re fully mixed otherwise the clumps of eggs could result in eggy bread
Can I Freeze Air Fryer French Toast Sticks?
Most definitely! After you’ve cooked your French toast sticks in the air fryer, make sure that they have cooled completely.
Place them on a parchment paper or wax paper-lined baking sheet in one layer and freeze for 1-2 hours.
Remove the baking sheet from the freezer and place the now-frozen French toast sticks into a freezer-safe container or bag. They will keep for up to 3 months!
How Long Do You Put Frozen French Toast Sticks in the Air Fryer?
These directions work for both the homemade version once frozen and also frozen french toast sticks brands such as Farm Rich and Eggo!
- Preheat your air fryer to 320 degrees.
- Place the frozen French toast sticks in the basket (you don’t need to worry about the parchment paper this time) and cook for 2-3 minutes.
- Remove them from the air fryer and enjoy with a bit of maple syrup immediately!
How to Reheat French Toast Sticks in the Air Fryer
The air fryer works great for reheating all sorts of food, french toast sticks included. What could end up as soggy bread becomes nice and crispy again!
- Preheat your air fryer to 350 degrees.
- Cook the leftover french toast sticks for 2 to 3 minutes until warm and crispy.
